When Oris marked its fifth anniversary with a road show entitled “Outline of Ideas”, the exhibition’s authors were aware that this was one of the last great collections of architectural sketches and drawings, that the age of this medium was coming to a close, and that future presentations and analyses of sketches and drawings would come down to retrospectives of old masters. Changes in tools and medium have not only meant a shift from pencil to computer screen, but have also changed thinking about architectural design. Clearly it is not possible to faithfully translate an analogous drawing, the first sketch of a project as an idea, into a digital record, regardless of format.
